SCARLET SOHO - "IN COLD BLOOD"

In Cold Blood is the follow up to Scarlet Soho's 'Warpaint' album (2009). It is produced by James Yuill, Graham Laybourne (Boytronic/Falco), Zanzibar Production and the band themselves. Scarlet Soho are James Knights and Scarlet. This album is by far their strongest yet.

Opening with a lone piano and the plaintive line "you shot me down in cold blood" this album invites the listener to lean in, to be faced with a three and a half minute synthesizer onslaught, swiftly crashing into the glistening electro of When The Lights Go Out followed by stomping live favourite What You Need. In Cold Blood manages to walk the tightrope between light and shade within the space of a single song as well the album as a whole. Take the upbeat doo-wop "uh-huh... uh-huh..." backing vocals in Gigolo, that transform into the sneering threat "you'd better keep your mouth shut and watch you don't drown". Similarly the bleepy shuffle of Two Steps From Heartache keeps you on the dance-floor despite James singing of the inevitability of life crashing down around you. A stripped back departure from what you might expect from Scarlet Soho comes in the form of This Town Is Mine. It features a solitary trumpet that is part cavalry "Last Post" and part sleazy jazz club. The track is an intoxicating mix of melotron, clicks and arpeggiators which culminate in the finger-pointing death-row statement "don't you ever forget - this town is mine". Make The Final twists the mood again striding affirmatively towards ice-cold vocoded disco track 2015. Final track Solo KO is a theatrical mess of swirling synths and grinding bass that manages to be both grandiose and heartfelt. "Take it til your eyes roll, take it til your heart explodes... if it's what you were born for".

In Cold Blood is an impressive achievement for a band releasing their third studio album. It is a tight mixture of synthetic and live instruments pulled into formation by Knights' bold vocal and Scarlet's coherent wording. Lyrically, it is often a dark affair with themes of mortality and fatalism running throughout. Musically, it couples electro pop sensibilities with depth and intelligence.

Cadiz Music will release the album worldwide on 13.02.15. Preorder available from today at scarletsohoshop.bigcartel.com .

BARREN EARTH SIGN WITH CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

Century Media Records are proud to announce the signing of BARREN EARTH!

Combining elements of modern and traditional death metal with 70's prog rock and folk, originally Finnish progressive death metal outfit BARREN EARTH, now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará, managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums. Their debut 'Curse Of The Red River' (2010) and its follow-up 'The Devil’s Resolve' (2012) have already solidified the band as one of the most promising upcoming acts of the genre and now they are at the ready to release another milestone in their career, taking the experimentation and heaviness to even further heights.

The band comments: ”It's the middle of a long, dark and cold winter here in Finland, however there’s no limit to our excitement as the future looks really bright today! We have a new set of music about to be released, having worked our asses off to create not just another album but a piece of real substance and weight in a world of cheap thrills and quickly forgotten gimmicks. We really poured our hearts and souls on this one and it's by far our best work yet.

For this most important release in our career, it was obvious we should only be partnering with the best possible label - nothing less than the mighty Century Media. We truly feel we could not be in better hands. This is where we want to be, the stars are aligned and all the ducks are in a row - 2015 is going to be the biggest year ever for BARREN EARTH!”

Jens Prüter, Head Of A&R Century Media Europe comments: “I still remember hearing the early Barren Earth demos six years ago in November 2008. We all liked it but one reason or another we were not then able to sign them. Fail. These fine gentlemen from Finland have now created and developed into a serious force in progressive death/doom metal. The band had progressed into one of the most interesting bands of the genre – mainly because they go beyond the boundaries of any genre and create a dark world of their own. It takes a while to fully get into their sound universe, but that’s what I like even more in our short-lived time. I’m sure the new album will be a timeless classic and I want to thank Barren Earth for knocking at our door again.”

BARREN EARTH recently finished the recordings for their third studio album which is scheduled to be released in early 2015. Details on that will be released shortly.

BARREN EARTH is: Marko Tarvonen - Drums Olli-Pekka Laine - Bass Kasper Mårtenson - Keyboards Jón Aldará - Vocals Sami Yli-Sirniö - Lead guitars Janne Perttilä - Rhythm guitars

Visigoth "The Revenant King" Metal Blade Records Release: 27 January 2015

When the gods called for metal traditional and true, Visigoth answered. The year was 2010, and Jake Rogers allied his bardic magic with Lee Campana's six-string sorcery to forge a tribute to the old sound of heavy metal. Thus the demo "Vengeance" was born.

Its completion sent tremors throughout the salted wastes of the Salt Lake City underground, attracting the attention of powerful musical forces. Jamison Palmer slung his mighty axe over one shoulder and trudged his way through the ice and snow of this inhospitable realm, lending his soul-rending riffcraft to the legion. He was soon joined by the mystical bass groove thaumaturgies of Matt Brotherton and the unrelenting storm-throned siege of Mikey Treseder's furious drumming. Together, they became known as Visigoth.

As a constellation they traveled throughout the Salt Lake valley, determined to liberate their allies from the enemies of true metal. All who heard their mighty riffs, scorching leads, and infectious choruses joined the Iron Brotherhood, becoming acolytes of all things heavy. After many hard-fought battles, the band came together to record the "Final Spell" EP in 2012, sealing the pact between them with rites ancient and sorcerous.

Visigoth plays heavy metal that hearkens back to the golden age of ironclad riffwork and powerful vocals. They pay tribute to the titans of steel that left their mark on the history of the genre, and their earth-shaking sound echoes with a deep reverence for their roots. Visigoth goes above and beyond mere imitation, making their own musical mark on the genre they lovingly embrace. In Visigoth's realm, there are no frills, no gimmicks; there is only heavy metal.

The band's brand of heavy metal fit perfectly within the ranks of Metal Blade Records, who brought the band on board to release their debut full length album. After signing with the label, Visigoth recorded "The Revenant King." The collection of heavy metal tracks was engineered, mixed, and produced by Andy Patterson at Boar's Next Studio in Salt Lake City. Alan Douches at West Westside handled mastering to offer a final product that truly represents the finest in true metal. Jake Rogers's powerful vocals lead the charge, and when combined with the twin guitar attack of Leeland Campana, Jamieson Palmer, and the rhythm section of bassist Matt Brotherton and drummer Mikey Tee, form an immensely potent traditional heavy metal attack that fans of the genre would be unwise to ignore!

Metal Blade Records to Re-Issue IF THESE TREES COULD TALK's First Two Albums January 26th

Akron, Ohio post-rock outfit IF THESE TREES COULD TALK was properly formed in 2005 and has grown tremendously since their humble origins in Zack Kelly's basement as an instrumental project in college. They released their first EP in 2006 and their first full-length, "Above the Earth, Below the Sky," in 2009. Both were released independently, with vinyl released via The Mylene Sheath. Those laid the groundwork for their breakout 2012 release, "Red Forest."

To begin 2015, Metal Blade will re-issue both "Above the Earth, Below the Sky" and "Red Forest" on CD - both of which are currently out of print!

"Red Forest" was independently released by IF THESE TREES COULD TALK in March of 2012 (Science of Silence pressed the vinyl). The nine song, 48-minute long album was self produced and engineered/mixed by Zack Kelly and Rick Fuller throughout much of 2011 at NEMeadow Studios in Bath, OH. Will Putney mastered the album and Charlie Wagers (The Fray, mewithoutYou, Caspian) of Three Bears Design was at the helm for art direction and design. This album was followed by a three-week sold out European tour in 2012, as well as a flurry of licensing music for games and film. Music from the band's catalog has been heard in Sony PS3 titles, and on NBC, MTV, VH1, the NFL, in videos for Vans, and for projects on the Sundance Film Festival. "Red Forest" quietly became a smashing success. Cumulatively, the band has sold over 20,000 copies, with 3,000 on vinyl alone across all of their albums.

As 2014 progressed, IF THESE TREES COULD TALK began work on their third full-length album. It was around that time that the band was approached by Metal Blade Records and signed with the label. Their independent and entirely self-motivated approach to their music and art will not change, however.

Guitarist Mike Socrates spoke about beginning work on their new album and the reissues of their first two albums: "We are extremely excited to get started on the new record. We begin tracking on the 15th of January at our drummer Zack Kelly's studio in Bath, OH. We did "Red Forest" here, and this is where we feel at home. The new songs are coming together nicely, and we feel that we are progressing in a way that will challenge ourselves as well as the listener. In the meantime, we are stoked that Metal Blade has re-issued our previous 2 albums on CD. We hope you enjoy what you hear, as we couldn't more excited to present the new album to you down the road."

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK Lineup:

Zack Kelly - Drums
Tom Fihe - Bass
Jeff Kalal - Guitar
Cody Kelly - Guitar
Michael Socrates - Guitar

SOURVEIN: Cape Fear Sludge Saviors Begin Tracking New Full-Length

Guest Collaboration With Amebix's "Stig" Miller Confirmed

Long-running Cape Fear sludge saviors, SOURVEIN, are currently holed-up at SSP Studio in Raleigh, North Carolina with Corrosion Of Conformity bassist/vocalist Mike Dean at the recording helm tracking their forthcoming new full-length, Aquatic Occult. Slated for release later this year via Metal Blade Records, the long player will include a two-track collaboration between SOURVEINmainman, Troy "T-Roy" Medlin, and guitarist "Stig" Miller of UK crust punk icons Amebix. Further details to be revealed in the weeks to come.

SOURVEIN has existed through two decades of distortion, damage and relentless doom, their resin-coated carnage made of toxic riffs, grooves and just the right amount of psychedelic appeal. In properly commemorating the release as well as chronicling twenty often-times tumultuous years as a band, SOURVEIN mainman, Troy "T-Roy" Medlin, was recently interviewed by friend and fellow musician, Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God, who penned the band's new biography. The text will serve as a thorough SOURVEIN introduction for the uninitiated.

"Finally, man. Finally," T-Roy relays in an excerpt from the text. "It's the record I wanted to make when I was in those rooming houses, but I couldn't. There was too much pain, so I got lost for bit, falling back into the party life and trying to numb myself with alcohol. But motherfuckers need to feel the pain. There is more to life than numbing yourself." Is that what Aquatic Occult will be about, bringing the pain? "I'm going to bring the truth. The lyrics are reality to me; I don't write about cars or chicks or fucking horror movies, I write about getting my nose fucking broken, all the stuff I saw growing up and now. But I want it to be positive, to let people know that there is a way out of bad times and tough situations. I'm living proof."

Stay tuned for further SOURVEIN transmissions including studio updates and live actions.

PERIPHERY LAUNCH NEW SONG 'ALPHA'

PERIPHERY hailing from Washington, DC have just launched 'Alpha', the title track from the band’s forthcoming release 'Juggernaut: Alpha' which is simultaneously released with 'Juggernaut: Omega'.

“’Alpha’ is the title track from the first ‘Juggernaut’ album and I’m particularly proud of how this one turned out,” explained guitar player Jake Bowen. “I really enjoy songs that have an unconventional arrangement but still flow nicely, and I think that's exactly why I like ‘Alpha’; it starts out more upbeat, then evolves into a darker mood towards the end, illustrating the ‘Juggernaut’ story both musically and lyrically. Additionally, a few different themes and motifs appear in this song, acting as a nexus between the ‘Juggernaut: Alpha’ and ‘Juggernaut: Omega’ albums. I hope you like this one as much as I do! Enjoy!"

'Juggernaut: Alpha' and 'Juggernaut: Omega' are out on the following dates via Century Media Records: GERMANY / AUSTRIA / SWITZERLAND / FINLAND: Friday, January 23, 2015 UK / BENELUX / FRANCE / GREECE / DENMARK / PORTUGAL / NORWAY / REST OF EUROPE: Monday, January 26, 2015 ITALY / SPAIN / POLAND: Tuesday, January 27, 2015 SWEDEN: Wednesday, January 28, 2015 'Juggernaut: Alpha' is available with a mini-poster while 'Juggernaut: Omega' is accompanied by a bonus-DVD featuring 'The JuggerDoc'. New Jan/Feb Tour Dates with BUCKCHERRY and SEASONS AFTER Announced.

This may or may not be your first time hearing about up and coming Chicago, IL hard rockers ROMANTIC REBEL, but one thing is for sure – it certainly won’t be your last.

Not only is the band kicking of 2015 with a slew of tour dates (including stops with Buckcherry and a three-week tour with Seasons After), their tough-yet-tantalizing frontwoman KT Paige is featured as REVOLVER Magazine’s January 2015 “Hottest Chick in Hard Rock”!

KT Paige states, “Being featured in Revolver as one of the Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock has been a dream of mine ever since Alex and I started ROMANTIC REBEL. Even before the band, I would read Revolver and wish that I could be as cool as the women they featured in the magazine. It’s definitely a surreal feeling to see myself in January’s issue!”

In a group statement, the remaining members of the band add, “It’s an exciting honor for KT to have received this recognition. She’s an amazing singer, great person, and one of all of our best friends. We’re very proud to be in a band with her and to see a magazine like Revolver recognize her is truly amazing.”

As mentioned above, ROMANTIC REBEL will hit the road with Seasons After towards the end of this month, with a few one-off dates added supporting Buckcherry. See below for all currently confirmed tour dates – PLEASE NOTE – all tour dates are subject to change.

ABOUT ROMANTIC REBEL: Chicago's ROMANTIC REBEL delivers a brand of female fronted hard rock with unparalleled, explosive energy that has been taking the scene by storm. Formed in 2012 by siblings KT Paige (vocals) and Alex Vincent (guitar), the band quickly recruited Danny D (bass) and Marcus Lee (drums) to form what would become ROMANTIC REBEL.

The band entered the studio in late 2013 with renowned producer Ulrich Wild to record their debut album in Los Angeles, CA. As mentioned above, the album was completed and released on April 29, 2014 via Pavement Entertainment/Sony RED, being named REVOLVER Magazine's 'Album of the Week', only days after its release. Their self-titled debut is a modern rock anthem with some throwback vibes blending female vocals with classic overtones, which has given ROMANTIC REBEL an upper hand to the seemingly stale rock scene. A hybrid of modern and classic elements has turned the heads of fans and critics alike.

After playing numerous regional shows, the band started touring on a national level, supporting acts such as: All That Remains, Sevendust, Asking Alexandria, Avatar, Crobot, Nonpoint, Otherwise and Like A Storm, in addition to landing a spot on Wisconsin Metalfest and Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin. In the summer of 2014, the band embarked on a four week tour with Bobaflex, as well as a national headlining tour.

NEW FULL LENGTH ‘SECURITY’ DUE APRIL 20th 2015 VIA PLEDGEMUSIC

American Pie movie star THOMAS NICHOLAS is back with a new single ‘Don’t Stop’, which is taken from his forthcoming full length entitled ‘Security’ due for release on April 20th 2015 via PledgeMusic.

Nicholas thought long and hard when it came to the process of launching his new album and decided that with PledgeMusic he could build a strong foundation for the release whilst also supporting a great cause, as PledgeMusic now offer the option to support a non profit organisation as part of your campaign. In this case, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital is the benefactor of the Thomas Nicholas Band campaign. The centre, founded in 1962 is a paediatric treatment & research facility that focuses on the treatment of catastrophic diseases.

As well as supporting this excellent cause the campaign will also offer numerous exclusive items that cannot be purchased anywhere else, including signed American Pie memorabilia and copies of the album on vinyl which is a format the band have never released music on before. The Thomas Nicholas Band will return to the UK for the forth time at the end of January to perform some intimate live dates as well as Nicholas hosting DJ sets at alternative club nights too. The touring schedule has been non-stop for the band recently as he discusses below:

“For the last couple of years we’ve been focused on touring in the midwest parts of the USA and England and Wales in the UK. Prior to that we’ve toured Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic. This being our 4th tour of the UK we started branching out to a few more places in the world. I’ve always wanted to tour Japan and I finally got the chance to play in Hokkaido this last October. It was an amazing experience. I even made the effort of site seeing. It didn’t matter that I flew 32 hours and I was only in Japan for 36hrs, I wanted to see as much as possible. I played 2 shows and most important, I got to eat amazing Sushi. Next up, we’ll be heading down under to Australia at the end of February.”

GREGORY PORTER AND LAURA MVULA UNITE ON NEW SINGLE ‘WATER UNDER BRIDGES’

“Man of the Moment” Gregory Porter, whose recent meteoric ascent has taken him from Jazz clubs to prime time TV and a Grammy award, today announced a partnership with British Jazz superstar Laura Mvula on a new version of ‘Water Under Bridges’ which features on the release of an expanded deluxe edition of his classic album, ‘Liquid Spirit’ released 12 January 2015.

The track, which is a lament written by Gregory dealing with challenges of shifting past broken relationships, was exclusively premiered on BBC Radio 2 and showcases their incredible individual vocal talents as well as their impressive harmonic abilities. The superstar Singer-songwriter vocal partnership was inspired by Laura’s surprise appearance during Gregory’s exclusive 2014 iTunes Festival show, where they performed an early version of the track to a capacity crowd at the London Round House last summer.

Although it is no great surprise Laura and Gregory have collaborated, as Laura is a great fan of Gregory and his music: “It’s like the stars align when he does his thing”.*

The ‘Water Under Bridges’ single will feature alongside a plethora of additional content on Gregory Porter’s ‘Liquid Spirit’ Expanded Deluxe Edition which is released on 12 January 2015 and available to preorder now on iTunes. The single will also be available on ‘Liquid Spirit’ Deluxe Edition CD/DVD (available digitally), also released 12 January 2015 and available to pre-order now on Amazon.

The Deluxe Edition includes an additional 4 tracks of collaborations, covers and a brand new remix. Jamie Cullum joins Gregory for their own take on Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, which they performed on Strictly Come Dancing in November 2014. There is also a brand new version of Porter singing Grandma’s Hands (originally made famous by Bill Withers) featuring Ben L’Oncle Soul and the 20Syl remix of Liquid Spirit takes Gregory to the clubs.

The Bonus DVD features extracts from Gregory’s performance with the Metropole Orchestra, conducted by Jules Buckley, from 2013. As well as orchestral versions of his own tracks we see Gregory covering Muddy Water’s ‘Hootchie Coochie Man’.

Named ‘Best Jazz Vocal Album’ at the Grammys, classic album, ‘Liquid Spirit’, has now reached Gold sales in the UK. Gregory’s breath-taking performances have taken the singer from numerous UK summer festivals, Hyde Park, headlining BluesFest at the Royal Albert Hall as well as the iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse, to popular television programmes such as The One Show, BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, and most recently the first BBC Music Awards, at which he was nominated for ‘International Artist of the Year’ alongside Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, Prince, Lorde and Pharrell Williams. In December, Porter was chosen to sing on the Marks & Spencer Christmas TV ad, as he continued to tour the country, impressing the crowds and critics alike.

With Gregory’s 2015 already commencing with a star studded collaboration with Laura Mvula, who knows what the rest of the year will bestow for “Man of the Moment”, Gregory Porter.
