DANGEROUS TOYS / BROKEN TEETH vocalist Jason McMaster: Hanging and learning Lemmy things

DANGEROUS TOYS / BROKEN TEETH vocalist Jason McMaster has shared his favorite memories of Motorhead's Lemmy.

I heard Motorhead for the very firs time in spring of 1981. I was about 17 years old and the Ace of Spades record was brand new. They were touring with Ozzy's Blizzard of Ozz through Texas and my friends had seen them live. I missed my chance at that time.

Fast forward to 1988.

My band Dangerous Toys was recording with Ozzy's producer Max Norman (Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, Megadeth; Y&T; Fates Warning; Armored Saint; Loudness) at Sound City studios in Van Nuys, California. We all went to the Rainbow Bar & Grill for the very first time, starry eyed with hopes to run into someone famous. That someone was Lemmy. Max busted my balls telling him I did a Lemmy impersonation. Max made me do it for him. It was ridiculous. Lemmy was unphased and super down to earth. We all wound up sitting at his table for hours.

In summer 1991, our 2nd major label release "Hellacious Acres" put Dangerous Toys 2nd on the bill of the legendary Operation Rock N Roll U.S. tour with Judas Priest, Alice Cooper Motorhead and Metal Church.

I saw Lemmy everyday for about two months and got to hang and learn Lemmy things. I have a video of Lemmy wearing "Daisy Dukes" playing guitar and former Motorhead guitarist Wurzel (R.I.P.) just drinking in our dressing room and jamming along on the song "Leaving Here". I cherish it, even though it is not that great.

Lemmy gave me his number and we kept in touch.(I still have his business card with hand written address and phone number on the back).

In early 1992, we were writing new music and Lemmy offered his lyrical skill to the cause. I still have the hand written lyrics give to me by Lemmy in yellow legal pad paper signed and dated by L. Kilmister. It was crazy to get that in my mailbox.

We dropped by with a cassette of the song at a Motorhead rehearsal, where they were rehearsing with who at the time was their new drummer Mikkey Dee. We hung out, listened to the song and Lemmy says "I wrote it as a 12 barre", kinda like a WTF moment. We were thinking he didn't like it that much, that we had opted out of writing something that sounded like a Motorhead song.

The song never made any final cut but the mere fact that he would offer some kid in a band he may not have liked much, a hand in helping with some lyrics still blows my mind.

Me and my friends had a blast hanging with him, touring with him and writing with him. We were not close, but he made us feel that we were all connected.

Fast forward to 2015.

Little did we know. My band Broken Teeth were recording our recently released "Bulldozer" record, we planned for the Motorhead song "The Hammer" to be on it; as it was always a favorite off of the Ace of Spades album. Like most bands, we wanted to have a couple of kick ass cover songs to make it even more fun.

In hindsight, it is very sad to have lost two founding members of the original Motorhead line-up (drummer Philthy "Animal" Taylor and Lemmy) just months after the album's release.

"Born to Lose, Live to Win"...Infamous words, even while they were walking and breathing in his song or on his tattoo. I say farewell now, to the General of Rock N Roll, Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister. We were not close, but you brought me in and fed me. I will never leave you. Thank you sir.

I believe in Motorhead. Greatest words I've ever said, Motorhead, never dead".

EARTHBURNER - Band announce official arrival with EP and new and video

EARTHBURNER has arrived! For BROKEN HOPE fans 'in the know', EARTHBURNER is the grindcore entity that Jeremy Wagner first created in 2002 when BH was entering it’s 'metal hibernation' period. The band went on hiatus, which ended up being longer than Wagner had hoped, as was their complete incarnation and long-term game plan.

As the saying goes, 'you can't keep a good man down' and with this as their mantra, EARTHBURNER are pleased to announce their official arrival. The guys have have both an audio and visual treat to to introduce themselves with too - listen to their first EP and watch the official music video for 'Total War', here: earthburner.com.

...And expect the full length album later this year!

Jeremy Wagner explains how the band came about below:

“I’m happy to announce that EARTHBURNER finally has legs and now has material for the whole world to hear and see. I originally planned to make EARTHBURNER a full-time successor to BROKEN HOPE years ago. In fact, I announced it to the masses in 2002, and immediately received positive responses from fans and press-plugs in almost every metal mag available at the time. However, some things in life side-tracked me (like focusing on being a novelist and getting married and moving), and that all caused EARTHBURNER to be put on the ‘back-burner.’

That said, EARTHBURNER was always on my mind…I was still writing and demoing riffs and extreme music that no one had yet heard, and with each passing year, some fans would ask whatever was I going to do with EARTHBURNER (and I yearned to do something to finally answer that question). The fact that anyone was still interested delighted me and also made me anxious to get it going again.

I’m intensely passionate about pure grindcore and had always wanted to a genuine grindcore band that would be a separate monster from BROKEN HOPE in terms of style, genre, tuning, vocals, and pure blasting ferocity. It was my love for bands like TERRORIZER, NAPALM DEATH, NASUM, REPULSION, GENERAL SURGERY, and CRIPPLE BASTARDS who all inspired me for decades and really drove me to do something faithful to this über-extreme genre.

Fast-forward to 2011…a dream came true when my debut novel, “THE ARMAGEDDON CHORD,” was published and became a bestseller that year. That success provided me with the opportunity to pursue more artistic desires. So, I decided to get back into music and concentrate on making EARTHBURNER a real goddamn band. I soon hooked up with drummer, Mike Miczek (who later joined BROKEN HOPE), and vocalist, Ryan Richards (from Chicago grind maniacs, EVERYTHING MUST DIE), and we began writing our asses off. We wrote a dozen songs and later decided to use 3 of them for an official EP (which is released today) and we even did a sick music video for one of the tracks, “TOTAL WAR,” that I feel is a perfect companion to this EP that listeners will dig.

Why did it take a little longer for this EP and video to come out? Well, 2 things happened: 1.) I had to file the name, trademark, and all copyrights to the EARTHBURNER name with lawyers and sit on this material. And, 2.) BROKEN HOPE came back into my life FULL-TIME in 2012, and because of BH, I had little time for anything else - be it writing new books or doing EARTHBURNER.

Now, with the arrival of this New Year, the legalities are straightened out, I have more time on my hands, and I’m in the position to properly release EARTHBURNER material for the first time!

I hope you’ll all enjoy this EP and the VIDEO that goes with it. Moreover, this EP is just a sample of what to expect from an EARTHBURNER album. Mike Miczek and I have demoed around 15 more songs at my home studio, and we are hoping a legit record label will sign us on so that EARTHBURNER can record and release a FULL-LENGTH album this year. We already have tons of songs ready to go—we just need a label home to put it out.

Until then, enjoy this new EARTHBURNER EP and VIDEO, and cheers to you all!”

EARTHBURNER is:

Ryan Richards - Vocals Jeremy Wagner - Guitars Mike Miczek - Drums

ÅRABROT ANNOUNCE EUROPEAN TOUR DATES

With their seventh album ’The Gospel' scheduled for release on 26th February via Fysisk Format, Norwegian rock pioneers Årabrot have now announced a run of European dates. Årabrot mainman Kjetil Nernes comments:

'Årabrot on the road 2016 - in search of something to fill the void - is the culmination of everything the band have done so far and definitely introduces the strongest lineup to date. Beware!'

During their 12 years of existence, Årabrot has managed to upset and confuse people in every possible way. From the get go in Haugesund on the windy Norwegian westcoast, where it all started, they’ve been provoking people with controversial artwork and music ranging from sleazy punk rock to cerebral experimentalism.

Carrying all the hallmarks of a cult band and with hard core fans all over the world, Årabrot have blown up everything from the dirtiest squats to art galleries and huge festivals. On the side of their rock band setup, they've also done music for silent movies like Die Niebelungen and Doctor Caligari and provided live music for The Quietus-founder John Doran's spoken word tour.

On top of all of this they won a Norwegian grammy for their 2011 album Solar Anus.

The new album “The Gospel” is recorded partly at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago and partly in the old church in the woods of Dalarna, Sweden where Nernes lives and runs his studio these days. Listen to title track ‘The Gospel’ which the band revealed towards the end of 2015.

This new album though could just as well never have happened. Just before going on a three week UK tour Årabrot main man Kjetil Nernes discovered an unsettling itch in his throat. After a quick visit to the doctor Nernes completed the tour with an alarming secret: Malignant cancer.

The album you have in front of you is a collection of the music and lyrics written while undergoing surgery treatment and recovery. In Nernes' own words:

'The theme of the Gospel is a vision of the lonely warrior on a summit looking out over a battle field, the smoke from the bomb craters, an all-encompassing silence. The war was against one self; against the ugliness, against the sickness. You sink to the bottom of the sea. All of a sudden you are back on the surface again, stupefied. And hungry! A wicked hunger for everything human life has to offer: Sex! War! Drugs! You breathe, but not like before. "The man who has been in hell never forget'

The Gospel marks the start of the new era in Årabrot's evolution that the recent EP's I Modi and You Bunch of Idiots has hinted at. This is Årabrot at its most confronting and unsettling yet still their most accessible work so far.

Årabrot has had a revolving crew of contributors the last 4 years. This time the band has been reinforced with among others, Ted Parsons (Killing Joke, Swans, Prong) on drums, Andrew Liles (Current 93/Nurse With Wound) and Stephen O’Malley (SunnO))/KTL) on guitar. Kvelertak singer Erlend Hjelvik also appears with norse guest vocals on "Ah Feel". As usual, the artwork is signed by Norwegian artist Johannes Høie.

Fans can pre-order the album starting January 15th. All those who pre-order the album will receive an instant download of their first single “In The Dark.”

“In The Dark” shows a different side of 3 Doors Down. You’ll recognise the robust riffing, but it flaunts a sexy and striking chant that emphasises a new groove and swagger altogether.

On the new album Brad Arnold notes: "We’re all excited to release our new album Us And The Night. It’s truly been a labor of love and we can’t wait to get these songs out to our fans around the world.”

Following 2011’s Time of My Life, which landed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and The Greatest Hits in 2012, the band continued its non-stop touring performing for audiences across the globe. Gearing up for Us And The Night the group recorded the album at Rivergate Studios in Nashville, TN with producer Matt Wallace [Maroon 5, Train, Faith No More] over the course of 2015. It nods to the spirit of their breakout debut with seasoned songwriting and the biggest and boldest songs of their 16-year career to date.

3 Doors Down first found their own voice in 1995. It’s only gotten louder over the past two decades. Everything kicked off with their 2000 debut, The Better Life. The album went six-times platinum and introduced the world to their now-classic “Kryptonite.” Their fan base continued to grow with 2002’s triple-platinum Away from the Sun—which yielded the smashes “When I’m Gone” and “Here Without You.” Both 2005’s platinum-certified Seventeen Days and 3 Doors Down [2008] bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 followed by Time of My Life’s #3 debut in 2011. In between countless sold out shows, the guys notched three Grammy Award® nods, scored two American Music Awards, and received a total of five BMI Pop Awards, including an award for Brad for BMI “Songwriter of the Year.” 2003 saw the group begin a tradition of giving back in a big way with the launch of their The Better Life Foundation [TBLF]. The organization has lived up to its name by giving as many children as possible a better life and supporting Center of the Prevention of Child Abuse, Habitat for Humanity, and various other charities. Its annual concert has hosted everyone from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Sara Evans to Staind, Shinedown, and Alter Bridge.

AVATARIUM Release music video for 'Pearls And Coffins'

Sweden's new doom darlings Avatarium's critically acclaimed current masterpiece, entitled ‘The Girl With The Raven Mask’, was released on October 23rd, 2015 via Nuclear Blast. Today the band reveals the music video for the song 'Pearls And Coffins', one of the album's standout tracks.

You can view the magnificent video here:

The video was filmed in Södra Teatern and Stora Vika, directed by Johan Bååth and produced by Robert Lundmark and Magnus Johansson from Bobin Film. Lundmark was also responsible for the editing.

"When I first heard 'Pearls & Coffins' the vulnerable beauty and violent darkness of the song really struck me. "Machine guns and soulless fashion," I pictured a cold war-like dystopian concrete dream world from another time in the past. When everything is lost, you let your deepest inner emotional feelings out, no matter how dark they appear.

The fascination for and showing violence is always tricky and it will and should always affect you and make you think twice. I feel that the video and the lyrics are about our deeper, darker corners inside our human mind and in our hearts of momentary darkness, where violence might set seed and may grow. Showing the shoot-out was meant as a personal metaphor for just that and of course not to encourage violence in any way, shape or form.

Before making this video I was in close contact with my friend and filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund and his wife and stylist Bea Åkerlund and we agreed to make Jennie-Ann really stand out as a flawless Post War-Lipstick killer and a Femme Fatale. Bea recommended an upcoming Swedish fashion stylist: Christopher Insulander who is really cool and innovative in a way that would make a huge difference in the appearance of especially Jennie's look and outfit. I truly think his work and creation is a piece of art that really makes the video look amazing and really stand out as something different for time to come

With luv,
Johan Bååth
Film director"
