JUPITER FALLS - New, young heavy rock guitar heroes release blistering debut album ‘Revolution’ on August 10th, via Broken Road Records
Jupiter Falls are an immensely gifted young metal / hard rock quintet, who mix anthemic, classic rock foundations with a modern, heavy alt-rock edge, to create a fresh sound that’s sure to inspire fans of breathtaking guitar pyrotechnics, and hard-hitting, groove-laden hooks. Forming in Leeds in 2013, and fast amassing a fanbase far and wide, following touring with Jake E Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel in France and the UK in 2014, Jupiter Falls are now set to release their highly accomplished debut album ‘Revolution’ on August 10th, via Broken Road Records.
‘Revolution’’s awesomely crisp sound comes courteous of legendary producer Roy Z, known for his work with major names such as Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen and Bruce Dickinson. Jupiter Falls were introduced to Roy by their former manager, and as singer James Hart tells it, “We were just having a night in our studio with a few beers when we got a Skype out of the blue and it was Roy. We were totally taken off guard, especially when he said how much he loved our music”.
What Roy fell in love with was an incredible blend of superlative technical skills, and solid, powerful heavy rock songwriting, influenced by the likes of Guns ‘n’ Roses, Dio, Alter Bridge, Shinedown and Avenged Sevenfold. At the fore of Jupiter Falls’ dynamic sound are James’ distinctive yet versatile vocals, which move easily from gravelly growl to rich melody, and the amazing skills of lead guitarist Deano Silk, who consistently delivers memorable riffs and breathtaking solos throughout ‘Revolution’.
The pair started collaborating after James saw a YouTube clip of Deano playing. “The guy just blew me away!”, James remembers, and three weeks later they were in the studio together, writing what would become ‘Revolution’. Next, they assembled the stunningly tight rhythm section, consisting of rhythm guitarist Zachari Daniels, bassist Dan Clark, and drummer Lewie Lewington, who conspire to create Jupiter Falls’ booming bottom end, adding a pulverizing weight and depth to the sound.
The lead single, ‘Chasing The Dragon’, out as a download on August 3rd, is a strong indicator of the quality of the material in store. A swinging hard rocker, with several shades of Slash in its chugging freight-train riffs and fluid, fast-fingered solos, the song serves as a superb introduction to Jupiter Falls’ songwriting, which draws freely from the classic canon right through to modern icons over the course of ‘Revolution’s 12 tracks.
On the album opener ‘Awake’, which begins with a reading of the children’s bedtime prayer ‘Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep’ (doubtless familiar to metalheads everywhere from a certain other song!), James’ sings with an appropriately Hetfield-esque snarl, while for the brooding story of betrayal ‘When The Time Is Right’, he delivers an aching and emotive vocal, perfectly complemented by Deano’s seething guitarlines.
As confidently as they pen slow-burners such as ‘When The Time Is Right’, and searing rock ballad ‘World War Three’, Jupiter Falls can also unleash sheer brutal aggression. ‘Forgiven’ is one fine example of the album’s heavier moments, where staccato riffing and moody guitar melodies mesh with Lewie’s merciless machine gun-fire drumming in an incredible intro. Elsewhere, the grooving, Latino-flavoured ‘Lei E Quella’ serves up one of Deano’s most transcendent solos, before the epic, keyboard-led arrangements of closing track ‘Where Are You Now?’ round off the record in spectacular style, and reinforces the point that Jupiter Falls are one seriously exciting, exceptionally talented new act.
