Scorpions "Return To Forever" The new studio album celebrating 50th stage anniversary - Release: February 20, 2015

“There’s something unreal about the number”, reckons Klaus Meine. The video for “Wind Of Change” has been viewed more than 108 million times on YouTube to date. VEVO meticulously recorded the view requests and certified them. With this, the Scorpions are the first German band cracking the 100 million click mark. Once again, the Scorpions have written a piece of music history.

The number is not only impressive, it also highlights the Scorpions phenomenon. 50 years after a very young Rudolf Schenker founded the band in the profoundly provincial, post-war Hannover, the Scorpions remain a band that is able to attract masses of new fans at any given time. A fact that surprises even the musicians themselves, as they gladly admit. “It’s really remarkable”, says Rudolf Schenker, for example, “how well and mostly unharmed we’ve survived those years, in which our kind of music seemed to have gotten out of style completely. When the grunge wave hit the shore, we simply went to Asia to tap new markets and gain new fans. We were able to continue playing and keep on winning new friends for our music.”

“Today”, they all marvel, “we’re not only as hip as we were at our best times, our audience is becoming younger and younger as well.” The insight that new generations worldwide are just now discovering the Scorpions inspires them. In 2010, the band had reached a point where the perpetual cycle of studio sessions, album releases, and subsequent mega tours had in the end worn them out to such an extent that they seriously considered winding down and planned to retire with a farewell tour. 2013 however, a world tour later, brought a breath of fresh air. The sensational “MTV Unplugged” concert at the Lycabettus open-air theater in Athens was the most urgent reminder of how dreamlike and intense performances in front of an audience can be, and what challenges still await them. Either way, the hunger for more had returned, for all of them.

So the band once again met up with their two favorite Swedes to realize a project, which initially had been intended to be rather plain. Mikael Nord Andersson and Martin Hansen had already produced “Sting In The Tail”, and re-arranged the whole material for “MTV Unplugged” together with Matthias Jabs.

“Actually, we only wanted to finally record some song ideas for the fans, which we had worked on in the past but never put on an album, and then release them without much fanfare”, Matthias Jabs remembers. “There had been quite a few over the years, ideas that were really good, but in the end didn’t make the cut back then due to the limited space on vinyl and later on CD. We quickly had eight songs, which partly had to be finalized first and were then recorded from scratch. During the work, increasingly new song ideas were added from our end, as well as from the two Swedes. We had so much fun working and suddenly we found ourselves in the middle of the songwriting process once again. And in the end, it turned out to be a brand-new Scorpions album after all.”

The fact that the fiftieth band anniversary was coming up as well, hit Rudolf rather accidentally: “Not long ago I found an old cash account book of my mom’s, in which she meticulously recorded the earnings and expenses of my band Scorpions fifty years ago. My parents had lent me the money for the first equipment back then, and it had to paid off in installments from the earnings. 50 years are a long time. Apart from us, at most the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys or The Who managed to do that. In that sense, the timing for the new album is perfect, we’re celebrating half a decade of Scorpions with the record and the upcoming tour.”

Ultimately, the band recorded 19 songs altogether. Twelve of which are on the album, sixteen on the Deluxe Edition. They all present the Scorpions at the peak of their creativity once again. Tracks like the first single “We Built This House” are as contemporary as the sweeping “House Of Cards” (a guaranteed live hit). Also belonging in the category live hit is “Eye Of The Storm”, a track, that transports a notion of the unbelievable dynamic and joy of playing, characterizing the Scorpions’ stage performances. In songs like “We Built This House” the band reflects the past fifty years; their philosophy and the lessons, their unusual life taught them. Klaus Meine: “In the end, it tells our story. We’ve built this house called Scorpions brick by brick and often quite arduously. From the first days in Hannover, the first concerts abroad, until this very day. We’ve weathered severe storms, but the house withstood everything, turned out to be wheatherproof and stable. However, building the house was never just cumbersome, but joyful as well. The joy of music, the joy of having experienced and still experiencing it all, the joy of – and the thankfulness for – the fans’ affection. We have been working hard for this dream, but we’re thankful as well for having been able to live it, and for still being able to live it today.”

In these fifty years, the world has changed rapidly. When the Scorpions started, the present with its smart phones, the Internet, intelligent fridges, holograms, and online streaming services was hardy imaginable even for the boldest science fiction authors. The Scorpions have witnessed and participated in all of these changes, were up to speed with these developments as artists and musicians, while at the same time staying true to themselves at all times. That too, is documented on “Return To Forever”. The band was never in need to make concessions to the respective zeitgeist, their own creative potential was much too extensive for that. For this, they have earned highest recognition worldwide, and in these fifty years have contributed an inestimable share in restoring the profoundly damaged reputation of Germany in the world after the Second World War. The fact that this contribution is now being acknowledged, is not least proven by the bestowal of the Lower Saxon State Award for the year 2014, which the band will receive on February 3, 2015.

Just how much the band is still charged with high voltage is demonstrated by classic arena rockers like “Going Out With A Bang” or the fantastic “Rock 'n' Roll Band”. Songs like these already whet the appetite for the upcoming world tour kicking off middle of next year, which the band is already looking forward to. Not least, “because it’s simply unbelievable and inspiring to look into the faces of very young fans, who discover us and our music in a whole new way.” And who, this might be added, experience the magic that characterizes Scorpions concerts since their early days, for the first time. The tour will take the band around the globe once again.

Before that, however, the Scorpions will appear on the big screen. The renowned film maker Katja von Garnier has accompanied the Scorpions on their “Final Sting” tour and put together a moving documentary with unique images during these eighteen months, displaying the band’s magic, which has never before been captured so well. The film is called “Forever And A Day”. The title at the same time outlines the philosophy the Scorpions have internalized since their early days. In the Eighties of the past century, they wrapped it up in the slogan “Don‘t Stop At The Top” (allegorical: Never rest on your laurels). They simply are travellers, who always seek new challenges, overcoming all obstacles along the way. The brand-new Scorpions studio album “Return To Forever” is out February 20, 2015 and will be released on CD, Deluxe CD, vinyl, Limited Collector’s Box, and several more digital and physical formats. The first single “We Built This House” can be downloaded as an Instant Grat on iTunes and Amazon.mp3 as of now!

Phal Angst Release Haunting New Clip For "Hardwire"

Phal Angst Release Haunting New Clip For "Hardwire"

Austrian industrial mob Phal:Angst are set to unleash their brand new video for the stunning “Hardwire”. Set to be released in tandem with their upcoming new album “Black Country”, the band have worked tirelessly to build a name for themselves in their native Austria and are setting their sights on bigger game this time round.

A stark and frightening clip, the band had this to say regarding the clip: “The first video to the new Phal:Angst Album "Black Country" is to the song "Hardwire" and it was shot in the legendary Viennese café/bar "Café Stadtbahn" which enjoys a perfect reputation with local bohemians, (sub)cultural people & heavy drinkers. So, a perfect ambience for Phal:Angst.

Also note the sign for "Kat's Caravan" which was a regular event there and refers to the legendary radio show by Jim Lowe & John Peel. The "story" of the video is social alienation, boredom, voicelessness but also a glorification of slowness. It might not be a coincidence that this one comes out of the city of Vienna, well known for it's morbidity, leisureliness and psychoanalysis. It took the viewers of the test screenings usually about 5 minutes to start asking themselves "what the fuck?!”

"At the end all questions should be answered.”

Phal:Angst is an Industrial/Post-Rock-Band from Vienna/Austria. Formed in 2006, they sit between Industrial, EBM, Post-Rock and Doom; taking influence from bands like Earth, Mogwai, Coil, Front 242 and Neurosis. They’re set to release their new album “Black Country” on November 14th alongside an album of “Black Country” remixes from prominent Austrian producers.

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK signed to Metal Blade in December, confirm new album and reissues for 2015

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK signed to Metal Blade, confirm new album and reissues for 2015

Akron, Ohio's IF THESE TREES COULD TALK have signed with Metal Blade Records! The post-rock outfit was properly formed in 2005 and has grown tremendously since their humble origins in Zack Kelly's basement as an instrumental project in college. They have since released two full length albums and an EP. Both albums, plus the EP, are available now digitally, but the albums have been out of print on CD. Both "Red Forest" (2012) and "Above the Earth, Below the Sky" (2009) are being repressed on CD by Metal Blade Records and will be available worldwide on January 23rd, 2015! Music and cd pre-orders are available now at metalblade.com/ifthesetreescouldtalk. And, of course, the band is fast at work on their third full-length album and Metal Blade debut. Producer/drummer Zack Kelly, along with guitarists Michael Socrates, Cody Kelly, Jeff Kalal, and bassist Tom Fihe will be tracking the record throughout the 2014/15 winter. The instrumental five piece promises to release one of the finest pieces of post-rock/metal of 2015.

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK comments on the signing: "We couldn't be more excited to join forces with Metal Blade. We have been inspired by many of the bands on their long and illustrious roster, so to be a part of that is a dream come true. Metal Blade has already shown us how much they believe in our vision, so we feel this will only do great things for the future of the band and the music that we make. By signing with Metal Blade, we will have the opportunity to grow and extend our reach worldwide by increasing accessibility to our music and all things Trees related through Metal Blade's vast distribution channels."

In the middle of 2014, while the band was already working on their third album, they were approached by Metal Blade Records. Their independent and entirely self-motivated approach to their music and art will not change, however. Recording for the album will take place at their studio in Ohio. Drummer Zack Kelly will produce - he has produced each of the band's previous albums, with engineering and mixing assistance by Rick Fuller, who also assisted during the recording of "Red Forest". Music from the band's catalog has been heard in Sony PS3 titles, and on NBC, MTV, VH1, the NFL, in videos for Vans, and for projects on the Sundance Film Festival. Cumulatively, IF THESE TREES COULD TALK albums have sold over 20,000 copies, plus 3,000 more on vinyl.

Profane And The Sacred "From The Top" video

Profane And The Sacred "From The Top" video

4 words to describe Profane And The Sacred? HARD HEAVY GIGANTIC GROOVES 'From The Top' is the new music video by London stoner rock 4 piece Profane And The Sacred.

Featuring gigantic doom laden riffs that unashamedly smother you in nostalgia but waste no time in lacing prog tinged instrumental breakdowns into a 5 minute musical journey. Showcasing time progressions that shift gears but never let up on the momentum and allowing the rapsy, gritty vocals of singer Luke Alleeson to cover the organic soundtrack with a warning to all in the song's lyrical content.

The band release their debut album 'Chapter 1 : A Long Time Coming' on 23rd February 2015 via Cargo Records.

„This is the story, we should shout out loud, tell everybody, that noone lives without: Shine Shine Shine within your mind.“

„The truth will set me free, I can always count on you, as you can always count on me.“

Free Music: Irish Tech Metallers Vile Regression Release 'Empires'

Yes, you did read it right, Irish tech metallers Vile Regression have just announced the release of their brand new record 'Empires' and it's free for all.

Guitarist Brian Brady comments: "We've been blown away by the positive feedback we have received from the online metal community and printed metal press for 'Empires'. The reviews have been incredibly positive and at this stage we want as many people to hear the record as possible! On top of this, the EP has already become available to download on various blogs and torrent sites, so rather than metal fans downloading a poor quality version, we want them to be able to download a full quality release of 'Empires', along with the artwork, lyrics and be able to share the download link with their friends. We hope people will enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it and look forward to seeing many of you on the road in 2015. Happy Christmas from Vile Regression!"

"...progressive death metal that easily sits alongside the output from most of today's big extreme metal names." Metal Hammer

"The talent coming out of Ireland has been nothing short of staggering, and this Dublin-based crew are up there with the best of them." Zero Tolerance

"Another blistering metal band from the Emerald Isle that could have a big future." Powerplay Magazine

Formed from the ashes of Irish extreme metal outfit Vistor Q; Vile Regression hit the scene in 2010 and released debut record ‘The Pattern Evolves’ in 2011 via Casket Music.

After sharing stages with prolific heavyweights such as Dyscarnate, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Unearth Vile Regression built a reputation as a tight and energetic new addition to the extreme metal underground and 2013 saw the band head back to the studio to record a new installment… ‘Empires’.

'Empires' was recorded at Trackmix Studio in Dublin, Ireland with producer Michael Richards and features 7 tracks of extreme metal; technical, but not technical for the sake of it, and songs which would bode well on the ears of those with a penchant for progressive metal on the darker and heavier end. The record was officially released on 21st July 2014.

‘Empires’ Track Listing

1) Tides 2) Raze The Complexity 3) Dream Of The Red Chamber 4) Thought Replication 5) The Abstract 6) Down To A Sunless Sea 7) The Empyrean Divide

HEIDEVOLK – NEW ALBUM IN SPRING 2015

After more then a month of recording, mixing and mastering HEIDEVOLK has completed their fifth full-length album. The band describes their experiences in the following statement:

"This week we have finished the production of our fifth full length album. We look back at an intense yet satisfying studio session with a killer product as a result. Although we booked the studio for plenty of days it proved to be a tight schedule to record, mix and master 15 songs. However, with the help of Jochem and Bouke at SplitSecondSound we've managed to maintain our focus and keep the quality to the standard it deserves. We cannot wait to release the album and play the new songs live in March 2015!!!"

Details about the release, album cover, title and track list will be announced early next year. For now HEIDEVOLK posted their first webisode with a peak inside the production process of the new album and a sample of a new song here:

The pair posted the remix as Jack U, the collaborative name that the two producers previously released debut single 'Take U There (Featuring Kiesza)' under, in September.

As Pretty Much Amazing reports, Jack U’s remix came as part of a live set at OWSLA’s Christmas party - the record label founded by Skrillex in 2011. An official release for the remix is yet to be confirmed.

ESSENCE OF MIND - 'Wrong' EP

ESSENCE OF MIND - 'Wrong' EP

Building up on the success received by the new sound approach they revealed on their recent "Indifference" album, Norway's ESSENCE OF MIND announce «Wrong», the 3rd chapter in the EP-trilogy ahead of the hugely anticipated release of their 4th full length album, "The Break Up!", and this is all in the wake of their recent German tour with their neighbours, APOPTYGMA BERZERK. Powerful, melodic and electronic with a touch of industrial metal and other dance music elements such as drum’n’bass, this exciting new song confirms the band's unique sound and faultless production maturity. ESSENCE OF MIND selected 3 specific and very different remixers to give us the impression that each remix is an all new song standing on its own, let it be the drum'n'bass influenced tune from DISKONNEKTED, the powerful melodic and 80's tainted electro track from TECHNOMANCER or yet the very emotional and moody piano remix by XENTURION PRIME... As a last but not least bonus, you will also find the exclusive song "For Real" reminding us of the amazing diversity of sound of this talented Norwegian band...

WHYZDOM - "Symphony For A Hopeless God" to be released 17 February 2015 via Scarlet Records

WHYZDOM - "Symphony For A Hopeless God" to be released 17 February 2015 via Scarlet Records

‘Symphony For A Hopeless God’ is the third album for French Symphonic Metal band Whyzdom. After two successful albums relying on the power of Symphonic Orchestra and Metal riffing, as well as on the beauty of female voices, they push their own “Philharmonic Metal” concept one step further, adding an even more cinematic edge to their songs. Orchestra has never been so powerful. Choirs has never been so haunting. Riffs have never been so compelling. And vocals have never been so intense, ranging from pure and fragile melodies to harsh growls, all provided by mezzo-soprano Marie Rouyer. ‘Symphony For A Hopeless God’ depicts the constant need of humans to rely on the irrational to guide their life, and to give up their own freedom of thought, speech and action on behalf of what we know as “religion”. Slaughters, genocides, ethnic cleansings, have too often been committed in the name of religion. What would God think of that if he really existed? This is exactly what this album is all about. 'Symphony For A Hopeless God' was produced by Vynce Leff, recorded, mixed and mastered in Paris at Powermania Studio, assisted by Mathieu Gillon (120dB Studio).

“EXTOL: OF LIGHT AND SHADE” DOCUMENTARY TO BE BROADCASTED ON NOR TV!

“EXTOL: OF LIGHT AND SHADE” DOCUMENTARY TO BE BROADCASTED ON NOR TV!

The well-established Christian death metal band Extol can look back on a great career including Nor Grammy nomination, several US tours, top CD-sales and national recognition in press and music scene. In April they release the documentary "Extol: Of Light And Shade"; the story of a band split in paradox between two worlds, Christianity and death metal. The film has been shown at various film festivals the past summer, and it will now be broadcasted on Norwegian TV channel NRK2, Dec 27!

Being strong believers in a music scene dominated by atheists and anti-religious practitioners creates some challenges. Extol, with its Christian content and death metal expression, has hence experienced its share of difficult situations and obstruction. Christians react with disgust on the aesthetics and effects the band uses, while the secular fraction of the music scene shows great dissatisfaction regarding the lyrical themes. On one side, local churches organized bonfire sessions of Extol products and held prayer meetings against the band, whilst on the other side they’ve experienced bomb threats from self-appointed Satanists before a gig, getting spat at and scorned.

After 6 releases with success, 2007 was the start of a five year long break for Extol due to the vocalists strong tinnitus and anxiety. The documentary gives an insight on tinnitus and anxiety where the singer speaks openly about some of the challenges he experienced in 2007 and the years that followed. Questions about faith and freedom of speech set in a musical perspective are also important topics. The film does also illustrate the band's position in the Norwegian music scene and their international position. Eyvind Skeie, Hank von Helvete, now deceased Pater Arnfinn Haram and the charismatic American rock pastor Bob Beeman are some of the characters we meet in "Extol: Of Light And Shade."

Dubai extreme metallers Voice of the Soul have today announced the release of their debut album which will be entitled 'Catacombs'. The album will be released via UK label Hell's Hammer & India's Transcending Obscurity on 27th March 2015.

First formed in Kuwait on the opposite side of the Persian Gulf in late 2007 17 year-old Kareem Chehayeb and 16 year-old Monish Shringi released their first EP, ‘Winds of Apprehension’ in July 2009 with second EP, ‘Eyes of Deceit’ seeking the light of day the following summer. After playing several shows in Dubai since January 2011, the band opted to relocate to the most popular city and emirate in the UAE before releasing their third EP, ‘Into Oblivion’, live on SOS Heavy Metal Radio in Portugal in August 2011. ‘Into Oblivion’ was undoubtedly the bands most successful record with songs receiving regular airplay across the globe.

During April 2014, the band made home at Haven Studio with producer Hadi Sarieddine in Dubai and recorded their debut full-length album ‘Catacombs’.

Kareem Chehayeb comments: "While the band started off as a straight up melodic death metal band, 'Catacombs' took on a different shift. The thrash has virtually disappeared from our sound on this album and riffs have some added 'colour' now which was inspired by bands like Opeth, Gojira, Daylight Dies, and various jazz bands that really inspired me to start writing metal again. 'Catacombs' also introduces occasional clean vocals, as well as more doom metal on some tracks."

The artwork (as seen above) was designed by Syrian Dubai-based artist Hamood Hallak of MHD Graphics, and was inspired by the concept of one of the tracks from the album called 'Pendulum'.

Kareem elaborates: "While it appears evident that there is a priest/figure leading sheep, the cliff that they are about to walk off is within the temple itself. We don’t specify whether it’s religious or not, because religion isn’t the sole focus. It’s political, it’s social."
