ABOUT EUROPE:

EUROPE’s place as a legendary classic rock band was platinum-stamped early in their career, having enjoyed an explosive period of worldwide success in the ‘80s, under-pinned by their hit album and single The Final Countdown, before going on hiatus between 1992 and 2003. They reunited and quickly settled into a period of re-establishment which has seen them re-enforce their reputation worldwide as one of the premier purveyors of blues-tinged classic rock with an edge and some kick. Their last album, 2012’s Bag of Bones, saw EUROPE hit the UK top 40 rock album charts and debut at #2 on the Swedish national charts.

SPINEFARM DROPS THE NEEDLE FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2015

SPINEFARM RECORDS will be supporting Record Store Day 2015 with a number of releases highlighting different aspects of the rock ‘n’ metal genre…

Taking said genre into brave new worlds are UK riff-gurus Turbowolf, who have just released their new / second studio album, ‘Two Hands’, via Spinefarm Records / Search & Destroy. Having recently toured with both Royal Blood & Death From Above 1979, advocates of the Turbowolf cause, the Bristol quartet are now very much on an upward trajectory, with Radio 1 playing the recent singles (‘Rabbits Foot’ & ‘Nine Lives’), and a headline UK tour currently underway...

On the other side of the Atlantic, Atreyu are a band who have already left a serious mark… One of the key architects of the '00s American metal resurgence, selling over a million albums in a 10 year period, the Orange County outfit simmered on the back-burner after 2009… but now they’re back in business with a brand new studio album, set for release via Spinefarm Records / Search & Destroy in late summer / early autumn 2015, backed by a comprehensive touring plan.

Just as Atreyu were breaking big in the US, so UK sextet SikTh were turning heads with their debut album, ‘The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait For Something Wild’; released in 2003, the record showcased a style combining elements of extreme metal, tech metal, prog & spoken word with plate-juggling musicianship & extended atmospheric passages to create a style that has cast a huge shadow over the past ten years of rock.

‘The Trees Are Dead…’ now achieves double vinyl status for the very first time, supported by selected international shows featuring the reformed original line-up.

Meanwhile, nestling under the ‘none more legendary’ banner, there’s Newcastle ne’er-do-wells Venom – a band who not only invented a new category of extreme music (‘Black Metal’), but who continue to be a significant international force in darker circles, playing shows around the world and generally spreading the message for no-compromise heavy metal of maleficent intent.

Released in January of this year, new Venom album, ‘From The Very Depths’, is right up there with the best of their work, and April 18th sees it being released on (double) vinyl for the first time.

SPINEFARM RECORDS: ‘RECORD STORE DAY’ DETAILS:

· VENOM – ‘From The Very Depths’. 14 tracks, ltd edition double red vinyl, gatefold sleeve, lyrics, satan approved. · TURBOWOLF – ‘Solid Gold’ / ‘Rabbits Foot’. 2-track 10” single, marbled black & white vinyl, postcard. · SIKTH – ‘The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait For Something Wild’. 18 tracks (including 4 bonus tracks), gatefold sleeve, lyrics, sleeve-notes, band commentary. · ATREYU – ‘So Others May Live’ / ‘When The Day is Done’. 2-track 7” single featuring new music, including current single / video ‘So Others May Live’.

The band members have been involved with punk and DIY music for nearly a century combined, including time in bands like Boyracer, Jüke, Whorl, Lunchbox and Black Tambourine, and operating the respected labels 555, Emotional Response and Slumberland Records. Initial Hard Left recording sessions in Spring 2014 led to the release of two limited edition lathe-cut singles, the Situationist-inspired "What's That Sound?" and the tough-as-nails "Safety." The band set to writing and in August 2014 gathered in the desert of Flagstaff, AZ to record. The results were two more singles ("Skinheads Home For Christmas" and a split 7" with Bad Daddies, both released in December 2014), and now this album.

We Are Hard Left is a concise and explosive punk record, packed with anthems of resistance and calls to action. These are crucial times that we live in, and Hard Left seek to inspire and invigorate. The opener "New Year" sets out the band's stall in fine fashion, urging listeners to "give up false needs" and embrace new beginnings. They follow with the blasting "Hard Left Rules OK," a call to arms if ever there was one. The album is tightly edited, each song on the heels of the previous one, exemplifying the group's eagerness to broadcast their message and energize their fans.

To that end, rousing chants and noisy interludes are interspersed throughout, cheeky but pointed references to their mod forebears and street-level terrace "politics." The message is always positive, the underlying mood is of hopefulness. "Hand In Hand" is an exhilarating call for solidarity and collective action, while "Future Perfect" imagines a world where the people were the true beneficiaries of the surplus created by progress, the perfect future we were all promised during the golden age of capitalism. Previous singles "Safety" and "Stay True" appear in re-recorded form, hard as nails and fitting in perfectly.

From the super-tough "Kicking If Off" to the Occupy-inspired "Red Flag" and the supremely uplifting (and also Situationist-inspired) closer "Imagination," this is a record that hits hard, crammed with guitars that soar and rage, group chants and raw-throated vocals. It's anthemic in the best way -- inspiring but never heavy-handed, a worthy successor to records by bands like The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols and The Dils. Call it "utopian Oi" if you will, or "hard mod" or just plain punk, but don't miss out on this passionate, thrilling record.
